Chrys Bonnay-Lewis: The "Death" of Cooking and the Functional Artist

  1. As a potter for over forty years, I worship the wheel thrown vessel. And I cook and bake. I find it difficult to believer that I would EVER stop using beautiful handmade pottery at my table. What might threaten potters more than the trend away from cooking is imported pottery, mass produced and soul-less.

But I'm odd, rarely use my microwave, refuse to put my pottery into it ever. I have a sneaky feeling that pottery will always be an art and craft that will survive, no matter what. People know the difference, our hands are hungry for the wheel ridges, the hand pulled handle, the whimsical tea pot. Worry not.
